MHV has partnered with students from Newburgh Free Academy’s PTECH program in support of their Global to Local initiative. This program, now in its third year, provides an opportunity for students to travel internationally to complete volunteer work. The students then return to Newburgh and implement the skills they learned during their time abroad to identify and complete a community action project. Following their 2018 trip to Cambodia, for example, the students partnered with community organizations in Newburgh to create a public memorial to local victims of trauma and violence.

This year, the Global to Local participants will be traveling to Thailand to work with Burmese refugees.
MHV has sponsored fundraising events at Two Alices and Newburgh Brewing to support the Global to Local program. At the conclusion of the Newburgh Brewing event, MHV was also able to present the students with an additional $1,000 donation, raised entirely by the credit union’s staff through their Jeans for Charity program.
