Positive Pay: the final say on every check and ACH debit.

We match every check and ACH debit to what you issued. Anything that doesn't match comes to you the next morning to pay or return.

What is it

Positive Pay puts a person—you—between your money and anything you didn't authorize.

Check washing, forged signatures, a vendor's stolen login used to push a fake ACH: business account fraud is a routine crime now, and business accounts don't have the same protections consumer accounts do.

How it Works

Three steps, mostly automatic.

  • You tell us what you issued. Upload your check register from your accounting software, or key checks in. For ACH, you set rules: which companies may debit your account, and up to how much.

  • We match. As checks and ACH debits arrive, MHV compares each one to your list: check number, amount, payee, date; company ID and amount for ACH.

  • You decide the exceptions. Anything that doesn't match shows up in digital banking and by alert. Approve it or return it by the cutoff time.

What it Protects Against

The ways business accounts get drained.

Altered checks

A check you wrote for $480 comes through for $4,800.

Counterfeit checks

Someone printed checks using your account number.

Washed checks

Your payee's name is chemically removed and replaced.

Unauthorized ACH

A company you've never heard of debits your account, or a real vendor debits more than agreed.

Internal mistakes

A duplicate payment or a check cut to the wrong vendor gets a second look.

Pricing

$40 a month, per enrolled account.

Enroll the accounts you write checks from; leave savings and reserve accounts off. One returned fraudulent check pays for years of it.

Any business that has ever had a check stolen from the mail

How to Enroll

Step 1

Speak with a business banker

A business banking expert can explain the tool and help you complete the enrollment application.
Step 2

We turn on the service and set your alert preferences.

We match. As checks and ACH debits arrive, MHV compares each one to your list: check number, amount, payee, and date; company ID and amount for ACH. For ACH, we set rules based on your needs: which companies may debit your account, and up to how much.
Step 3

Upload your first register and start building your future rules.

Once you set up Positive Pay, all ACH transactions will appear as exceptions the first time. As you approve them, you can build rules customized to your business rules. You decide the exceptions. Anything that doesn't match appears in digital banking and in alerts. Approve it or return it by the next day's cutoff time.

Turn it on before you need it.
